Knowsis Documentation & User Guide

Everything you need to know to get started and make the most of Knowsis.

Introduction to Knowsis

Welcome to Knowsis, the platform designed to enhance the productivity of financial and investment professionals. Your Knowsis experience is built around three core components: a Chrome extension for capturing research, a central web portal for organizing and enriching your data, and the Knowledge Hub for discovering new insights.

The Chrome extension allows you to highlight text and take screenshots from any website or PDF. This captured content, along with your notes and analysis, automatically syncs to your web portal. Inside the portal, you and your team can add comments, create calendar events, build scenarios, and track sentiment, fostering a dynamic, collaborative research environment.

Additionally, the portal features the Knowsis Knowledge Hub—a dedicated discovery center for external market intelligence. The Hub is a centralized directory where you can find and connect with external content providers, ranging from independent research boutiques and specialized funds to curated news and official sources. Through the Hub, you can easily follow public research feeds or request access to premium, restricted content directly from the creators, bringing all your vital market intelligence into one unified workspace.

1.1. Download and Installation

To start capturing insights, you need to install the Knowsis Chrome extension:

  • Find the Extension: Log into your Knowsis account, click the top-right dropdown menu, and select Get Extension. Alternatively, search for "Knowsis" directly in the Chrome Web Store.
  • Install: Click Add to Chrome and accept the necessary permissions.
  • Pin to Toolbar: For easy access, click the Puzzle icon in Chrome, locate Knowsis, and click the Pin icon. (You can also do this via the "Manage Extensions" menu by toggling on Pin to toolbar).
  • Enable PDF Access (Crucial): To highlight text within PDFs, navigate to Chrome's Manage Extensions > Details for Knowsis. Turn on the toggle for Allow access to file URLs.
  • Disable Conflicts: If you use any other PDF reader extensions, disable or remove them to prevent conflicts with Knowsis.
  • Restart & Log In: Restart your browser to finalize the installation. Click the pinned Knowsis icon and log in with your email and password. Once synced, your team's name will appear on the extension icon.

Note: The extension requires an active Knowsis subscription to function.

1.2. Extension Configuration & Best Practices

To ensure a smooth capturing experience, keep the following configuration tips in mind:

  • Enable/Disable Capturing: When logged in, your extension pop-up will display a toggle switch. Keep it set to Enabled to see the highlighter tools. You can turn this off at any time to temporarily pause the extension.
  • Excluding Sensitive Domains: Prevent the extension from activating on personal or sensitive websites (like email clients).
    • Click the Settings icon in the extension pop-up.
    • Enter the domain to exclude (e.g., mail.google.com). Do not include "https://" prefixes. Enter one domain per line.
    • Click Save. A red box will overlay the Knowsis icon when visiting these domains. (Note: Remember to re-add your exclusion list if you ever reinstall the extension).
  • Wait for Page Loads: Allow heavy websites to fully load before trying to highlight text.

2.1. Basic Features: Highlights, Entities, and Tags

Capturing text is simple:

  • Highlight Text: Select text on any webpage or PDF. A Knowsis toolbar will appear.
  • Save Highlight: Click the Highlighter Pen icon. The text is instantly sent to your portal's Activity Feed.
  • Delete Highlight: Click the highlighted text again and select the Trash Can icon.

Adding Context (Entities & Tags):

  • Add Entity: Link your highlight to a company, country, or asset class. If the entity isn't in our database, a prompt will guide you to create it. You will be asked to classify the entity type, and the system will check for duplicate names.
  • Add Tags: Categorize your highlight by topic to make it easier to filter and search within the web portal.

2.2. Taking Screenshots

You can capture charts, images, or specific page sections using our screenshot tool:

  • Hover your mouse over the top-left corner of the area you want to capture.
  • Press and hold the Alt key (your cursor will become a crosshair).
  • Click and hold the Left Mouse Button, then drag to frame the area.
  • Release the Left Mouse Button first to see a capture preview.
  • Finally, release the Alt key.
  • Click the extension icon to view the thumbnail, and click Edit to add entities, tags, or intelligence views.

2.3. Working with Google Translated Pages

Because Knowsis cannot run natively on live Google Translate pages, use this workaround:

  • Use Google Translate on a webpage, then choose to Save as PDF.
  • The extension will prompt you to create and highlight the file.
  • You can highlight both the original and translated versions. Knowsis will smartly attach both sets of highlights to the same document in your portal, generating dual links for the original and translated versions.

3.1. Expressing a View (Bullish/Bearish)

Transform raw data into actionable insights by attaching sentiment:

  • Highlight text and click the Bullish or Bearish icon.
  • In the pop-up, specify the affected Entity (e.g., a company, commodity, country).
  • Optionally, add an Asset Class (e.g., equity, credit, or custom). Example: Entity = Federal Reserve; Asset = Liquidity.
  • Add any custom comments.
  • Click Save and close, or Save and add another to stack another view onto the same highlight.

3.2. Events, Scenarios, and Follow-ups

  • Calendar Events: Select text describing a catalyst and click the Calendar icon. Title the event, link entities, and set the date. Check the "Tentative" box if unconfirmed. The highlighted text becomes the event description.
  • Scenarios: Select text and click the Scenario icon. Give it a name, target date, and an unconditional probability (probabilities do not need to add up to 100%). Link entities, select the asset class, and input your expected price reaction (%).
  • Follow-ups: Need a colleague's input? Click Follow-up, type your question, and select a team member from the dropdown. This flags the item directly in their portal feed.

Tip: You can stack multiple intelligence layers—like marking an item Bearish and creating a Scenario—by using the Save and Add Another button.

4.1. The Activity Feed and Content Sources

The Portal is your central hub, divided into three main tabs:

  • Team: Internal content created by your organization.
  • Shared: Content shared with you by external Knowsis partners (e.g., research boutiques, external funds).
  • Public: Content published to the entire Knowsis community.

Using the Activity Feed:

  • Items are grouped by document. Click any card to open the source URL or PDF.
  • Interact with your team by leaving, editing, or deleting comments.
  • Permissions: Team leaders/owners can edit or delete comments from any team member.
  • Use robust filtering by entities, tags, and (in Shared/Public tabs) specific content providers.

4.2. Specialized Dashboards

Beyond the Activity Feed, the portal organizes your insights into specialized dashboards:

  • Bulls & Bears: View conviction levels. You can upvote or counter-vote sentiments. If you vote opposite to a teammate, the system shows a split view. A tie results in a neutral indicator, while majority shifts will change the consensus color.
  • Calendar Events: Your catalyst calendar, grouped by Upcoming Days, Weeks, and Months. You can edit times, tentative statuses, or update past events.
  • Scenarios: Aggregates probabilistic calls. Compare probability, target asset, and expected price reactions side-by-side for asymmetric risk/reward analysis.
  • Follow-ups: Track all pending questions and who is assigned to investigate them.
  • Latest Actions: A raw, chronological audit trail of every individual action taken by your team.

4.3. The Knowledge Hub

The Knowledge Hub is where you discover external content providers, specialized blogs, and official news sources.

  • Browse & Follow: Browse provider tiles. If they offer a public feed, click Follow to add their content to your homepage.
  • Restricted Content: For premium providers, click Request for Content. Indicate if you are a prospective or existing client. Knowsis will automate an email introduction to establish access.
  • Missing a source? Contact Knowsis support to request the addition of specific feeds or research providers.

5.1. Organization Settings & User Roles

If you are an Account Owner or Co-owner, use the Organization Settings to manage your team:

  • Branding: Update your team name, logo, and contact info.
  • User Roles & Billing: Add members via the Members tab. (Note: Adding members affects your subscription cost).
    • Owners/Co-owners: Full admin control, billing, and user management.
    • Leaders: Can edit/delete team content and publish Spotlights. No billing access.
    • Members: Can only create and edit their own content.
  • Distribution Groups: Create subgroups (e.g., "Premium Clients") for seamless sharing. External users added to these groups do not need a paid Knowsis subscription; they only need to complete a quick, free account setup via your email invitation.

5.2. Sharing Content

(Requires Leader, Co-owner, or Owner permissions) To distribute your research:

  • Click the Share icon on a document card in your Activity feed.
  • Review the list of attached highlights and intelligence. You can uncheck internal comments or private scenarios to exclude them from the share.
  • Select the target audience (the Public feed, or a specific Distribution Group).
  • PDF Sharing: If you are sharing a PDF, you have the option to attach the underlying file. If the file is proprietary, uncheck this box; recipients will see your highlights and views, but cannot download the raw PDF.
  • Manage everything you've previously distributed via Organization Settings > Shared Tab.

5.3. Creating Spotlights (Reports)

Spotlights are curated, publishable reports built directly from your portal intelligence.

  • Click Create Report in the top right of the homepage.
  • Add a title, description, and edit the auto-generated URL "slug" for SEO/readability.
  • Select documents from your library, then refine the narrative by checking/unchecking specific highlights, views, or events.
  • Publishing: The Spotlight saves as a draft. A user with Leader permissions (or higher) must navigate to the Spotlights tab in Org Settings to approve and publish it.
  • Once published, you receive a static, public link to share via email, WhatsApp, or social media.

If you run into issues, please review these common fixes and system rules before contacting support:

Extension Capturing Issues

  • Click and Drag (Don't Double-Click): Always click and drag your cursor over text to highlight it. Selecting paragraphs by double-clicking the mouse can cause extension errors, such as highlighting the entire webpage.
  • Password-Protected Platforms: The highlighter likely will not work on gated platforms (like proprietary research provider portals). Fix: Download the content as a PDF, open it in Chrome, and highlight the local file. Always adhere to the provider's copyright rules.
  • Page Not Responding: If the extension is unresponsive, try a simple page refresh. Alternatively, click to a different Chrome tab and then return to the original page.
  • Heavy Websites: Always wait for a webpage to fully load. Script-heavy sites take a few seconds before the extension becomes fully active.

PDF Issues

  • PDF Fails to Load: If clicking a PDF web link fails to load in Chrome properly, click the download/save button. Open the completed download pop-up, or manually drag and drop the saved PDF directly into an empty Chrome tab.

Extension Disappearing

  • Restart Chrome: If you just turned on your PC and the extension is missing from the toolbar, or acting erratically, fully closing and restarting Google Chrome will usually resolve the issue.

Account & Email Rules (Important)

  • One Email per Organization: An email address can only be linked to one Knowsis organization.
  • Failed Invitations: If you invite someone and it fails, their email is already attached to another org. They must ask their current Org Owner to remove them before they can accept your invite, or provide you with an alternate email address.
  • Multiple Accounts: If you are currently logged into Knowsis with Email A, but receive an organization invitation at Email B, you must log out of the Email A account first before accepting the invitation for Email B.
